Then a reassuring voice follows him from behind the wall:
“Don’t starve, Yellow. I’ve got you.”
For once, Yellow does not need a complicated excuse, an important appointment, or a secret business meeting. Someone has promised to take care of him—and when food is involved, Yellow is always willing to trust a good promise.
Yellow Trusts the Right Words
Yellow pauses for a moment. He has heard many promises before, and not all of them ended with dinner. Still, these words sound different. They are warm, confident, and—most importantly—clearly connected to food.
His worries disappear almost immediately. Hunger may be a serious problem, but Yellow has always believed that the right person, the right timing, and one convincing promise can solve almost anything.
No Questions Asked
Yellow does not ask who prepared the food, what is on the menu, or when dinner will arrive. Those details can wait. The only words he truly heard were “Don’t starve” and “I’ve got you.”
That is enough for Yellow.
A moment ago, he looked like a cat being sent away. Now he walks off with the confidence of a customer who believes his table has already been reserved.
A Very Convenient Arrangement
Yellow has no idea who will feed him, where the food will come from, or whether the promise was serious. But he decides these are technical details best handled by someone else.
In Yellow’s mind, the agreement is already complete: he stays hungry, someone feels sorry for him, and dinner eventually appears. It is a simple business model—and remarkably, Yellow believes it has worked many times before.
So he leaves without looking back, calm and satisfied. Black may call it shameless confidence. Yellow prefers to call it excellent management.
