Lost Way and Found the Road to Hell – Honda Cub Ride to Khao Makhem

The Road to Khao Makhem began as a simple camping ride but turned into an adventure before I had even left my neighborhood.

What began as a simple camping ride turned into an adventure before I had even left my neighborhood.

Only a few minutes after leaving home, my Honda Cub ran out of fuel. With no petrol station nearby, I had no choice but to stop at a small house and ask for help. A local resident sold me enough fuel to get back on the road.

It was an unexpected beginning—but it was only the first problem of the day.

The journey began with an empty fuel tank just minutes after leaving home.

A Ride That Began with an Empty Tank

After adding the fuel, I finally set off again toward Khao Makhem.

The sky was clear, the road was quiet, and for a while the ride felt completely normal. I thought the worst problem of the day had already passed.

I was wrong.

As I approached the mountain area, the road signs became less clear and the route began to feel uncertain. What looked like a simple ride to a campsite slowly turned into a search for the correct road.

Near Khao Makhem, the road disappeared into a maze of quiet plantation tracks.

Lost Near the Mountain

I was already close to Khao Makhem, but the final road was far more confusing than expected.

Several small tracks disappeared between the rubber trees, and there were few signs to confirm which direction led to the campsite. I stopped more than once, checked the route again, and then continued along another uncertain road.

The closer I came to the mountain, the more isolated the surroundings became. The paved road was gradually replaced by dirt, loose stones, and deep ruts left by passing vehicles.

An Unexpected Meeting on the Wrong Road

While trying to find the correct route, I came across a pickup truck carrying a group of Russian travelers.

They seemed to be heading toward the same mountain area, so for a moment I felt relieved. In a place where every road looked uncertain, simply meeting other travelers made the route feel less lonely.

After a brief exchange, I continued onward. The road ahead, however, became much steeper and rougher than anything I had expected.

The Road to Hell

The Road to Khao Makhem became steeper, narrower, and more dangerous from this point.

The surface was broken by loose stones, deep ruts, and sharp climbs. There was almost no room to choose an easier line, and once the motorcycle lost momentum, restarting on the slope became difficult.

I kept moving slowly, concentrating on every meter of the road. The campsite was somewhere above me, but the mountain seemed determined to make the final approach as difficult as possible.

A Fall on the Final Climb

On one of the steepest sections, the Honda Cub finally lost its balance and fell.

Fortunately, I was not seriously hurt, but lifting the motorcycle on the slope was not easy. For a moment, I stood beside the fallen Cub and wondered whether continuing was the right decision.

The campsite was already close, so turning back felt even harder than moving forward. After checking the motorcycle, I lifted it, caught my breath, and continued the climb.

At last, I reached the campsite and finally took off my helmet.

Finally at Khao Makhem

At last, the steep road ended and the campsite appeared in front of me.

I parked the Honda Cub, took off my helmet, and placed it beside the motorcycle. Only then did I feel how tired I was. The journey had begun with an empty fuel tank, continued through confusing plantation roads, and nearly ended with a fall on the final climb.

It was not the easy camping ride I had expected. But sometimes the wrong road becomes the best story.

After everything that happened along the way, simply reaching Khao Makhem felt like a small victory.
